Gerald Fogel, a native of Concord, California, has dedicated over thirty years to public service, forging a distinguished career as a firefighter and a paramedic. His journey began at the Contra Costa Consolidated Fire Protection District, where he first served as a volunteer reserve, learning the ropes of emergency response and community safety.

In 1984, Gerald graduated from paramedic school, a pivotal moment that led him to join American Medical Response as an Emergency Paramedic. His exceptional skills and quick decision-making soon paved the way for his entry into the Fremont Fire Department in 1985. Here, he became part of the first class of firefighters/paramedics, a new initiative that blended firefighting skills with advanced medical care. His ability to handle fire emergencies and medical crises greatly enhanced the department's effectiveness, and his leadership in these dual roles earned him a promotion to Fire Captain/Paramedic. In this capacity, he led numerous emergency operations and managed programs that significantly improved the department’s service delivery and engagement with the community.

Upon retiring from active duty, Gerald’s passion for firefighting and public service did not diminish. He continued contributing to the field by joining the Foresthill Fire Protection District, where he mentored new firefighters and provided invaluable strategic guidance, ensuring the continuation of high-quality emergency services.

Gerald's commitment to public safety extended beyond firefighting and emergency medical services. He also worked as an EMT with Pomeroy Ambulance Services and provided medical support at the Concord Pavilion, managing emergency care at major public events for over a decade. His expertise in crisis communication was put to practical use as a communications specialist with the Urban Search and Rescue California Task Force 4, where he coordinated the response to various national disasters.

Moreover, Gerald was Division/Group Supervisor on a Type 3 Incident Management Team, overseeing responses to major emergencies, including hurricanes and wildfires across the United States. His leadership was particularly critical during significant crises like the 1989 Oakland Firestorm and the 1991 Loma Prieta Earthquake, where he demonstrated his capability to manage complex situations and make decisive, lifesaving decisions under pressure.

Outside of his professional life, Gerald is an avid enthusiast of physical fitness and the outdoors. He engages in various activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, and skiing, keeping him physically and mentally sharp. He also competes in off-road motorcycle racing, participating in events like the Virginia City Grand Prix, where he embraces the physical and mental challenges of the sport.

Gerald follows a ketogenic diet to maintain his health and energy. He advocates a balanced lifestyle integrating rigorous physical activity with disciplined nutritional habits. His philosophy is to live each day fully and maintain a proactive approach to health and wellness.
